ORVIS, Emma

Last rites were held for Miss Emma Orvis Tuesday afternoon, February 8, 1944, from the Centennial United Brethren Church. Miss Orvis, a native of Yeddo, died Saturday morning, Feb. 5, at Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis, where she had been a patient since Jan. 6, 1944. Services were in charge of the Rev. Isaac Cox of Perrysville, and the Rev. Bernice Livengood of Covington, followed by interment in Harveysburg Cemetery.  Emma Orvis was born Oct. 25, 1884, a daughter of Joseph and Caroline Robbins Orvis. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Ettie Rennicker, of Yeddo; seven nieces and four nephews. A sister, Addie Orvis Sowers and two brothers, Lawrence and Harry, preceded her in death.

  The four nephews, Kenneth and Harry Orvis of Danville, Ill., Donald Orvis of Tangier and Richard Orvis of Yeddo and two great nephews, Ronald and Gordon Allen of Stringtown, acted as pall bearers. The nieces Mrs. Russell Martin of Camp Crowder, Mo., Mrs. Naomi Orvis of Tuscola, Ill., Mrs. Robert Caughron and Miss Oveda Orvis of Danville, Il, Mrs. Virgil Allen of Stringtown, and Miss Marjorie Sowers of Yeddo, acted as flower bearers.  Mrs. N. W. Burke sang, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Arthur Phipps. ā€“ thanks to ā€œSā€
